MATURE WOMEN
As we age, we often find ourselves looking in the mirror and saying, “Where did I go?” or “What went wrong?” Less and less frequently, it’s “Damn I look great!!!!!”
Beauty is on the inside. That statement has never rung more true than now. “I am constantly getting questions from my clients about injections, filler, and face lifts,” Michael says. “I always say the same thing: WHY? I like a wrinkle—it means you smile!” Nevertheless, many women worry incessantly about appearing older. So how do we remedy this situation? We’ve compiled these tips to help you draw attention away from what you don’t like—and toward what you do like.
The one product that can most improve a woman’s appearance is under-eye concealer, also called spot concealer. Using this to banish the dark circles will instantly brighten up the face. This is the best way to look rested, even when you’re not! Whether powder, liquid, or crème, always look for a yellow-toned concealer, and go for one shade lighter, if not the same shade as the face. Apply under the eye along the lash line, and at the inner corner of the lash line.
The key to good foundation is achieving the right coverage, tone, texture; if one of those is wrong, the entire look can go wrong.
• Coverage: As many women age, they want to steer clear of foundation, or want something heavier to fill in the wrinkles. Neither is a smart idea. Think complete coverage, not heavy coverage. Complete coverage will tone down or minimize what we don’t like and bring out the facial characteristics we do like.
• Tone: When choosing a color, make sure you do so in as much natural light as possible. If you are in a department store, take a mirror to a spot with natural light. The important thing is that it totally disappears into the skin. A simple adage to live by: If foundation looks orange or pink, it’s too dark. If it has a grayish cast, it’s too light.
• Texture: Think about your lifestyle when considering foundation texture. Mineral powders, which are lightweight and provide good coverage, are an easy way to go; always apply sunblock and moisturizer beforehand. Liquid foundation can give skin a nice glow if your skin is dry to begin with. Crèmes tend to be create a heavier, more full coverage. Avoid liquids and crèmes if your skin is oily, as you can end up with foundation creased in your natural fine lines.
At Simply Moore, we believe that the eyes are the window to the soul, and the eye brows are the frame to the soul. As we age, we tend to have sparser hair growth. So without going for “Mommy Dearest” brows, it’s a good idea to fill in the brow shape. Try a powder, and match the color with the hair on the top of your head—use the darkest tone in your hair color as a guide.
