BROW

At Simply Moore, we abide by two eyebrow truths: No. 1: Eyebrows always give a woman power. And No. 2: If your face is the picture, your eyebrows are the frame. And everyone knows a frame can either enhance the picture or detract from its beauty. In other words, eyebrows can make the face, and shaping those brows is an art. Brows that are shaped to match the bone structure and curvature of your face have a strong, positive impact on your overall look. It takes patience, attention to detail, and a vision for the bigger picture. Luckily, with more than two decades of experience and a true talent for precision, Michael can work magic with the eyebrow, and has earned the “Top of the Town” award from Denver’s 5280 Magazine. Below, some basic tips for beautiful brows.

Technique

Tweezing, never waxing. “I don’t believe in waxing a brow,” Michael says, “because so quickly you can change the shape…for better or for worse. And there’s no going back.” Start by holding the brow tight, and tweeze with (not against) the direction the hair grows. If you feel like you’re taking out too many hairs, stop, walk away, and reassess.Tweezers in hand, Michael shapes brows one hair at a time to achieve the most natural shape possible—and never has to put on a whole new brow. He has mastered the art of control.

Shaping

The key to brows is really making sure the shape is correct for your face. Lots of women tend to arch the brow too quickly, and end up with a shape similar to a Nike swish; plus, a dramatic high arch will look forced and unnatural if that’s not the way your face is structured. You have to adhere to the way your facial muscles work. The eyebrow follows the natural arch of the orbital bone, which curves above the eye socket. Often, hair grows naturally both above and below that natural line. These are the hairs that should be removed to create a cleaner, fresher, more defined appearance.

Coloring

Adding color to your brows is one of the most important things you can do to enhance the shape and definition. Choose the same tone as the darkest color in your hair (the lowlights). If your brows are too dark for your hair color, you can lighten with a brow gel with a little color to soften the tone. Also, consider tinting, which can last up to four weeks if you’re not adding product on top of it.

Over-Tweezing

It’s easy to over-pluck until you’re left with the tiniest wisp of an eyebrow, which looks unnatural. Just remember to take your time and step back often to assess the big picture. If you do find yourself with a pencil-thin line for a brow, or maybe an obvious bare spot somewhere, you can fill in the sparse areas to achieve the desired shape. They key: Go with a powder over a brow pencil, as powder lasts longer and doesn’t smear in warmer weather. Begin by laying a base, outlining the brow shape to give it impact, and then fill it in. Your color should match the darkest tone in your hair.
